Royal Palm Academy
The paradigm for education is changing. Royal Palm Academy blends virtual and distance learning programs with a traditional ‘brick and mortar’ center, giving students the flexibility of self-paced, individualized instruction within a social and structured environment.
Developed by and for our students over the past ten years, Royal Palm Academy partners with accredited programs around the United States to offer students who require and want educational options an exceptional and successful program.
Accredited programs supply the content, teachers, tests and grades, either on-line or via correspondence, while Royal Palm Academy tutors offer guidance, support and discussion. Working from our center, students are given a social environment with other students, which traditionally has not been available in virtual or distance-learning programs.
Geared around a regular school calendar, students attend classes in specific subjects, yet are able to work at their own pace for each course. Tutors conduct discussions on specific content and also are able to work one-on-one with students when needed. We also utilize the latest technology in real-time video-conferencing when students travel or need to be away from the center.
Geared for students in grade levels 8-12, Royal Palm Academy allows students the flexibility to accelerate or remediate as needed. In addition, we offer a ‘bridge year’ after high school graduation for those students who are not yet ready to commit to university study full-time. The possibilities are endless.
As more and more families are searching for alternatives for their students’ educational needs, Royal Palm Academy provides new options.
Our hybrid learning promotes active independent learning. Research shows that this type of school:
- Develops time management, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Enhances computer skills, increasing opportunities for academic and professional success.
- Promotes self-directed learning.
- Becomes de facto writing-intensive courses, because of the highly text-based nature of websites and e-mail.
- Allows an instructor to teach to subject mastery without traditional class time constraints.
- Encourages integration of out-of-class activities with in-class activities to allow for more effective use of traditional class time.
- Increases interaction and contact among students and educators, as well as between the students themselves.
- Presents materials in a range of formats can help make sure every student is fully engaged in at least some class activities.
Faculty participants almost universally believe their students learned more in the hybrid format than they did in traditional class sessions. Instructors also reported that students wrote better papers, performed better on exams, produced higher quality projects, and were capable of more meaningful discussions on course material. In addition, high school graduation rates increase as do the percentage of students going on to college or university study.
